Oracle Technology Network's Virtual Developer Day

At the IOUC meeting, Tobin Gilman did not mention this session when he talked about the Virtual Tradeshow.  Maybe he did not mention it due to the fact that most of the user groups at the IOUC are oriented towards Oracle applications instead of Oracle technology,  The Virtual Developer Day event, which is on February 1, is targeted towards us geek types.  When I saw this in the Oracle Partner Newsletter, I thought that many of us technologists in the Hyperion world would be interested due to its focus on WebLogic. 

As you may know, WebLogic is now the lead application server technology for the Hyperion product line.  The Virtual Developer Day is all about WebLogic and I plan to attend.  It also has coverage on the latest J2EE features some of which, for example, persistence, are used in the Dodeca server.  Here are the details with a link to register:

Oracle Applications Virtual Tradeshow

There were some excellent sessions presented by Tobin Gilman at the IOUC today.  I have known Tobin since his days at Hyperion and, ironically, he also worked at Intergraph in Huntsville, AL when I worked at Intergraph.

One of the things in his presentation was an ad for a virtual tradeshow where you can see some Hyperion related customer success stories.  The virtual tradeshow will be on Feb 3, 2011.  This event has two sessions on EPM/BI.  At 1 pm eastern, there is is session "Better performance visiblity With Oracle Business Intelligence Applications" featuring a company named Automatic Weapons.  At 1:30 pm eastern, there is a session entitled "Leveraging your ERP Investments with Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management Solutions" with General Dynamics.  Is it a bit ironic that both of these companies are defense related entities?

Dodeca Videos Online

ODTUG Board Meeting

After spending the 2 weeks visiting a customer site in Switzerland, then becoming a work hermit for a month, I am off to the ODTUG Board Meeting this weekend in San Francisco.  The Board Meeting also marks my return to official responsibilities representing the Hyperion community.  On my ODTUG agenda, I have a couple of Hyperion-related goals:

1. To make the KScope conference the best national education conference for Hyperion customers; and
2. To clarify the Oracle concepts of user groups for the user community.

Oracle has a plethora of user groups and often there are overlaps in what these groups do, thus it can be really confusing for end users.  As a result, attendance at the user group conferences as dropped to a fraction of the attendance back in the Hyperion Solutions days.  Much of the drop is due to the fact that in the Oracle world, the conferences are put together by the user groups themselves versus organized by the company.  Oracle does have the Oracle Open World conference, which is huge, but the Hyperion portion last year had, maybe 500 people.  By contrast, some of the Hyperion Solutions conferences had 7,000 people with a common focus.

To achieve these goals, I need your feedback to take to our Board.  Several of you have reached out to me with your thoughts on how I can help the user community in general using my position on the Board.   Please send me your feedback/ideas via email at timtow@appliedolap.com.
